NDP Response to Canadians for Properly Built Homes (CPBH)
- related to issues raised by CPBH for Federal Election

New Democrats agree that every person has the right to a solid home that is structurally sound and we support your efforts to ensure that home builders build their homes properly the first time.

A national housing program has been an NDP priority for a very long time. New Democrats have been active on anti-poverty, transportation and affordable housing issues and our leader, Jack Layton, has also been active in advocacy in communities as a City Councillor in Toronto since 1982. The NDP is consistently pressing for a solid commitment by this government for a federal housing program that will alleviate the homelessness crisis and that respects the principle that shelter is a human right. As part of that pressure, the safety of such housing must also be a priority, as it must be for every home in Canada.

Last Spring, the NDP rewrote the federal budget by allocating $1.6 Billion to social housing. The NDP Caucus will continue to press for a new and safe housing policy in the coming parliament.
