Energy Efficiency

The Issue:

Most Canadians are concerned about energy efficiency and climate change issues.  Governments have an important opportunity to address energy efficiency and climate change problems by ensuring that all newly built homes are energy efficient at the outset.  Residential heating and cooling constitute approximately 10% of Canada’s energy consumption.

Unfortunately, many homes built today do not even meet the current building codes in relation to energy efficiency matters such as insulation, and air and vapor barriers.  Further the codes need to be more rigorous in relation to energy efficiency matters and governments need to inspect during construction to ensure that the codes are being met.
Governments at all levels have been reluctant to tackle these issues with the building industry.

Canadians for Properly Built Homes Position:
Canadians for Properly Built Homes is calling for all governments across Canada to ensure that homes are properly built and energy efficient from the outset.  This means revising the building codes, and then ensuring that newly built homes meet the building codes.
