Dr. John Molot
Environmental Medicine Expert
Dr. Molot has focused his medical practice on environmental medicine for more than 30 years and has developed an expertise in indoor air quality and health effects. Because of this expertise, he was the Medical Advisor on the Federal Task Force on Material Emission Standards, chaired by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) in the 1990s. In 1999, as a consultant for Health Protection Branch, Health Canada, Dr. Molot co-authored a paper reviewing linkages between emerging and future technologies in buildings and housing over the next 20 years and potential impact on human health. (“Review on the Specifications of Indoor Linkages”). From 2014 to 2016, he was a member of the Task Group on Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality, National Research Council.
In 2013, he wrote the Academic and Clinical Perspectives segment of a business case proposal to build a Centre of Excellence in Environmental Health, which was funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MoHLTC). This segment contained more than 1100 citations. As a result of this proposal, the MoHLTC created a Task Force on Environmental Health (2016-18) to which Dr. Molot was appointed by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. Presently, he is a member of the Canadian Committee on Indoor Air Quality, which is supported by the Government of Canada’s Clean Air Regulatory Agency.
Dr. Molot has been an advocate for patients with conditions linked to the environment for many years. He collaborated in developing The Medical Perspective on Environmental Sensitivities for the Canadian Human Rights Commission, which led to the Commission’s recognition in 2007 of environmental sensitivities as a disability with the legal right to accommodation. He has provided more than 100 evidence-based, expert medical opinions requested for litigation in Canada and the USA.
